What it is good at
The most direction-agnostic mover on the market: any-to-any including V2P and cloud-back-to-on-prem. Server Sync, test cutover and scheduled waves are mature.
Where it falls down
Licence cost, and a Windows-based control server to stand up. Check the supported-platform matrix for newer hypervisors such as AHV and Proxmox.
Capabilities
- Changed-block tracking / incremental sync
- Wave / batch orchestration
- Non-disruptive test migration
- Rollback / failback after cutover
- Encryption in flight
- Automatic driver / guest tools injection
- API / CLI automation
- Discovery and assessment
- Programme reporting / audit trail
Cost and licensing
- Cost category
- Paid — Commercial licence required.
- Indicative price
- Perpetual per-workload licences, commonly bought in blocks
- Licence model
- Licensed per workload, not per server or per host. Perpetual licences let you move the same workload as often as you need; there are also term/subscription options. The PlateSpin servers themselves are not separately licensed.
- How to license it
- Buy workload licence blocks from OpenText or a partner and activate them in the PlateSpin Migrate licence manager (online or offline activation code). Size the block on the number of distinct workloads in the programme, not concurrency.
