Backup Storage Sizing Tool

Six platform profiles — Veeam, Commvault, Acronis, Rubrik, Cohesity and a neutral generic profile — each with its own data reduction ratios and backup modes.

The cost of a retained GFS full is modelled per platform and per backup mode: about a third of a full for Veeam with ReFS/XFS block clone, under a tenth for globally deduplicating platforms, and a whole copy for periodic active fulls.

Capacity is built up line by line — first full, retained incrementals, GFS points, index, working space, immutability reserve, file-system overhead and free-space reserve — so every terabyte is accounted for.

Usable capacity is converted to raw through the chosen RAID level or erasure-coding scheme, then into a drive count, or into appliance nodes for Rubrik, Cohesity and Commvault HyperScale.

Ten workload profiles, from virtual machines and databases to Microsoft 365 and unstructured data, each with a change rate and reduction ratio you can override row by row.

Tape libraries from LTO-6 to LTO-10: cartridges per full copy, active, scratch and cleaning media, the onsite and vaulted split, the slot count, and the drives needed to finish inside the tape window.

Secondary copy and long-term archive tiers with their own retention, plus the replication bandwidth and the ingest throughput the backup window demands.

A year-by-year forecast of front-end data, backup data, usable and raw capacity across a planning horizon of up to ten years.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint deliverables generated from a single calculation, so the report, the workbook and the customer deck never disagree.

Sign-in is optional: the sizing and every export work without an account, and signing in only saves named projects for later.
