Microsoft License Assessment Tool (MLAT)

Scan by computer name, IP address, range (10.0.0.1-50), subnet (10.0.0.0/24) or a text file of names and IPs. Offline addresses are skipped in seconds.

Connects over WMI or PowerShell remoting (WinRM 5985/5986) and falls back automatically. Saved credential sets are tried in turn and kept in Windows Credential Manager, and a rejected domain account is not retried, so nothing gets locked out.

Collects every host and virtual machine from VMware vCenter, Nutanix Prism, System Center VMM and Configuration Manager, then reads the Windows license inside each Windows VM.

Windows license state for every computer and VM: product key installed or not, activated or not, channel (OEM, Retail, KMS, MAK, AVMA), KMS host and grace days. Machines that could not be scanned are listed as Not verified, with the reason.

Licensing status per cluster for Windows failover clusters and vSphere, Nutanix and VMM clusters, including VM mobility: with Windows Server Standard every node is licensed for the virtual machines that can move to it.

Windows Server core licensing (8 per processor, 16 per server, Standard stacking against Datacenter), user and device CALs, SQL Server per core and Server + CAL, RDS, Office, Visio and Project.

Microsoft 365 through Microsoft Graph: subscriptions, renewals and trials, assigned and unused licenses, Entra ID, Intune, Defender and Purview usage, plus Azure billing products and Volume Licensing exports.

Gap analysis against your license inventory: covered, potential gaps, unused licenses and validation items, with procurement quantities in packs and indicative prices you replace with your own.

Reports in PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, a procurement workbook and the raw JSON. Privacy mode anonymises computer and user names.

Read-only: no agents, no configuration changes, no passwords or full product keys collected. A command line runs unattended for Intune, Configuration Manager or Group Policy deployments.
